The purse bid is no longer necessary, as the International Boxing Federation reveals that a deal was reached for Shawn Porter (24-0-1, 15 KOs) to defend his IBF welterweight title against mandatory challenger Kell Brook (34-0, 22 KOs). The sanctioning body was told the fight would take place on August 9th in New York.
Porter is riding a hot streak, with an upset win over Devon Alexander to capture the title last year and then a one-sided four round destruction of former champion Paulie Malignaggi. Brook is undefeated and regarded as a dangerous fighter, but Porter represents a big step up in class when compared to his past opponents.
