It's official. Primera Hora reports that WBO super bantamweight champion Daniel Ponce De Leon (34-1, 30KOs) and mandatory challenger Juan Manuel López (21-0, 19KOs) signed the fight contracts last Sunday to collide on the June 7 undercard to Kelly Pavlik-Gary Lockett at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Most expect a classic Mexico vs. Puerto Rico battle.
"My dream will finally be carried out. I am a good boxer that hits hard and I have experience and I do not have the any doubt that on that night, I will become the 58th world champion in the history of Puerto Rico," Lopez said.
Ponce De Leon seemed unfazed, but he knows that Lopez is strong and takes him very seriously.
"I recognize that López is a strong boy with a lot of desire to win. I was in that same position and know myself what feels to win a title and I also know the hard work that it takes to continue as the champion," Ponce De Leon said.
