Victor Petrochenko, trainer of WBO middleweight champion Dmitry Pirog (19-0, 15KOs), believes his fighter has the style to defeat WBC Diamond champion Sergio Martinez (47-2-2, 26KOs). Pirog will be sitting ringside on Saturday night at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, observing Martinez in the ring as he defends his title against undefeated British boxer Darren Barker. Last Saturday in Russia, Pirog stopped mandatory challenger Gennady Martirosyan in ten rounds.
"Martinez is the fighter that we have to face," Petrochenko told Roman Grishin. "The Argentine is a left-hander, and I have the recipe on how to deal with him. Dmitry has been successfully working against lefties, and you can even see it in his training. I believe that we can beat Martinez. I think Martinez believes that Dmitry is not an easy opponent, and maybe that's what makes him avoid the fight."
