Former Italian super lightweight champion Piero Ceru, after battling a lenghty illness, has passed away at the age of 73.
Ceru turned pro in 1966 and retired in 1978 with a record of 32-27-7. The majority of those defeats took place from 1974 onwards.
He stopped Danish great Borge Krogh in Denmark, and drew with Roger Zami and Everaldo Costa Azevedo. More importantly he took on all comers fighting all over Europe.
In 1974 he challenged for the EBU championship but was stopped against Perico Fernandez.
