BAYAMON - Puerto Rico's unbeaten world champions Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. and Roman "Rocky" Martinez were both in good shape as their prepare for their defenses on the Billboard "Undefeated Champions," which will be held on Saturday, May 29, at the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum in Bayamon Puertor Rico, presented by PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) in association with All Star Boxing, which will be broadcast on "Pay Per View."
Vazquez (18-0-1, 15 KOs), super bantamweight champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), will defend his title against the Hungarian Zsolt Bedak (15-0 and five knockouts), ranked first at their weight.
This afternoon, led by the Boxing Commission of Puerto Rico (CBPPR), Vazquez Jr. weighed in at 133 pounds. The allowed max is 140.3. From Germany, where Bedak is training, it was reported that he weighed 129 lbs.
"We are working hard and we feel good. Doing things with people we know," said Vazquez Jr. who works with his father and coach Wilfredo Vazquez, Alex "Cano" Matos, Angel Alfonso Rosario, and Uri Ramos. "We're training hard and very focused on this fight. We expect to look good."
Vazquez Jr., was crowned champion on February 27 when he knocked in the fourth round unbeaten Filipino fighter Marvin Sonsona.
The co-star of the event, Martinez (23-0-1 and 14 knockouts), the WBO junior lightweight champion, will defend his belt against Gonzalo Mungía. The weight of Martinez, who will make the second defense of his title, was 137 pounds of an allowed maximum of 149.5. Mungía, reportedly weighed 136.5 pounds.
"We always keep training hard and so we always make weight. No problems with the work we do. We will continue to work strong in the gym to once again look good for my people," Martinez said.
The undefeated fighter won the title WBO title in March 2009 by knocking out Britain's Nicky Cook in England. In his first defense, he also knocked out Colombian Feider Viloria.
The program will be transmitted through the system of "Pay Per View" at a cost of $39.95 for all cable systems and satellite TV in Puerto Rico and internationally.
