By James Blears, at the scale
WBC Internatonal flyweight champion Edgar Sosa (44-7, 27KOs), and WBC silver flyweight chamipion Wilbert Uicab (33-6-2, 18KOs) were in a dead heat at the weigh-in at the exquisite Oasis Hotel in Cancun.
Within a pebble's throw along the white sugar soft sand to the turquoise sea, both brushed the scale at 50.800 [111.9-pounds],under a canvas roof, protecting a large crowd from the cooking power of a broiling sun. If this draining heat persists, it might act as a factor come fight night.
A steely but good natured face to face followed with lusty local support favoring local lad Wilbert.
Northerner Humberto "Zorrita" Soto (57-7-2, 34KOs), who's fought so many times in this State of Quintana Roo that he's considered a local, and Brazilian Claudinei Lacerdia (14-2, 10KOs), both scaled 63.500 kilograms [139.9-pounds] for their ten round clash. Zorrita did a light workout on the running machine the night before to keep trim.
Mexico City's Dante "Crazy" Jardon (19-2, 17KOs) weighed 58.800 kilograms [129.6-pounds], while Berman Sanchez (26-3-3, 18KOs) from Managua Nicaragua was 600 grams lighter.
Heavy, enthuisiatic and good natured support for a fired up Wilbert, with Edgar looking calm, collected and extremely confident.
