David Sanchez faces countryman Juan Alberto Rosas in the first defense of his interim 115 lb. belt Saturday evening in Hermosillo, Mexico.
Both fighters made weight for their contest, in which airs live on TV Azteca in Mexico and beIN Sports Español in the United States. Sanchez came in exactly at the 115 lb. limit. Rosas was a shade under at 114.75 lb.
Sanchez (26-2-2, 20KOs) comes in riding a 16-fight win streak, including a vacant title-winning effort in a 12-round decision over Breilor Teran last May. His most notable win of a three-fight campaign in 2014 came one bout prior, scoring a 4th round stoppage of former Top 10 contender Marco Demecillo.
His most recent performance came in a non-title fight, stopping Anuar Salas in five rounds last August.
Rosas (40-8, 28KOs) has emerged as a divisional spoiler in recent years. His biggest win to date was a Nov. '11 majority decision over Zolani Tete, who went on to win—and still holds—a super flyweight title.
In more recent times, Rosas also managed an upset over previously unbeaten Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. last April. Gonzalez' father, Alejandro Sr. enjoyed a title reign during his run as a top featherweight in the latter half of the 1990s.
The winner of Saturday's bout will be in line to face 115 lb. titlist Kohei Kono.
