WBC heavyweight champiom Vitali Klitschko (40-2) and challenger Shannon Briggs (51-5-1) meet face to face in Kiev, Ukraine to announce their championship fight on October 16 at O2 World in Hamburg, Germany. Briggs, a former WBO heavyweight champion, will have his third attempt to win a major belt. He was previously beaten in his first attempt by then former undisputed heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis. He won the WBO title with a twelve round TKO of Sergei Liakhovich in November 2006, but lost the title in his first defense against Sultan Ibragimov eight months later.
