Former world champions Wilfredo Vázquez Jr. and Román “Rocky” Martínez showed great condition today at the 30 day weigh-in for their upcoming bouts against Mexicans Rafael Marquez and Miguel Beltrán Jr. in “The War, Puerto Rico vs Mexico” to be held on August 4, at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, in a PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) presentation, in association with All Star Boxing, Top Rank and Promociones Zanfer, to be televised on Pay Per View.
Vazquez Jr. (21-2-1, 18 KOs), the former WBO super bantamweight champion, who will face Marquez (41-7, 37 KOs), former IBF bantamweight and WBC super bantamweight champion, for the WBO International super bantamweight title, weighed today 131.4 pounds of a maximum limit of 140.3 pounds as allowed by the Puerto Rico Boxing Comission.
“We are working cautiously because the weather here is hot and we want to reduce the weight pound for pound”, Vazquez said after the weigh-in at the Miguel J. Frau Gym in Bayamon. “But we are working hard for an experienced fighter like Marquez, I’m relax but focused in this fight and working in my movements”.
In the co-feature fight, “Rocky” Martinez (25-1-1, 16 KOs), a former WBO junior lightweight champion, will fight against Miguel Beltran Jr. (27-1, 17 KOs), for the WBO NABO junior lightweight title and in a WBO world title eliminator. Martinez weighed 139.2 pounds of a 149.5 pounds limit.
“I’m in the sparring stage right now, and training hard for this important fight. I’m feeling good and ready to fight”, Martinez, who hasn't fought since last October, said.
In the other Pay Per View fight, former Olympian McJoe Arroyo (10-0, 5 KOs) will fight against Mexican Miguel Tamayo (12-3-2, 11 KOs) for the super flyweight WBO NABO title in a bout scheduled to 10 rounds.
