In the early rounds, Nelson was controlling the action by coming forward and landing the harder punches. Ware was game and keeping things close as they were fighting on the inside in spurts.

In the fifth round, Nelson suffered the second cut from a clash of heads. Both cuts were around the left eye. During the sixth, Nelson rocked Ware and went for the finish, but Ware was holding on and being defensive to survive. But referee Jay Nady had seen enough and jumped in to wave off the fight.
