This afternoon, after appearing on Nacíon, WBC lightweight champion Mikey Garcia returned to the ESPN studio green room to say hello to WBO super featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko who was waiting to go on Sportscenter. Photos by Mikey Williams / Top Rank.
Garcia was in action last Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, when he moved up to the junior welterweight division to dominate four division world champion Adrien Broner over twelve rounds.
Lomachenko returns this coming Saturday night in Los Angeles, in an ESPN televised main event against Miguel Marriaga.
After Garcia picked up his big win, he called for a fight with Lomachenko at 135-pounds. Garcia is ready to do that fight by the end of the year. He doubts Lomachenko and his team want the fight, pointing to the fact that Lomachenko is going up against a featherweight in Marriaga, who is also coming off a loss.
Lomachenko, who said he would like to face Garcia at the lightweight limit, was not very impressed by his performance against Broner and doesn't view him as being an "A-class" fighter.
Lomachenko is promoted by Top Rank, who promoted Garcia for most of his career. Garcia and Top Rank were involved a legal battle for over two years, when the boxer fought to break his promotional agreement. The two sides reached a settlement last year and went their separate ways.
