Santa Monica, CA - In front of a packed house of Southern California media on Wednesday afternoon, boxing’s fastest rising star, GENNADY “GGG” GOLOVKIN held his first Los Angeles workout for the press corps, just ten days ahead of his WBA/IBO World Middleweight Championship defense against Two-time world champion DANIEL “The Real Deal” GEALE.
Working under the watchful eye of heralded trainer ABEL SANCHEZ and K2 Promotions’ TOM LOEFFLER, Golovkin answered questions from the media before training.
“I feel terrific, this is a big fight for me. Daniel Geale is a former world champion and a dangerous opponent.”
“This is a big test for me. I’m very happy with the way my career has progressed.”
“This morning I weighed 164, no problem with my weight.”
With the highest knockout ratio (89%) among all active champions, in addition to his extraordinary growth in viewership on HBO, Golovkin has become a must-see attraction in the international sporting world.
In 2013, Golovkin scored four knockouts, three of which were telecast on HBO to outstanding viewership earning him plaudits for both Fighter of the Year and Knockout of the Year among many media members.
Previously holder of the (‘IBF’) International Boxing Federation Middleweight Title and WBA “Super” Middleweight Title, Geale brings a distinguished record of 30-2-0 (16KO’s) into the world title challenge with Golovkin. Geale is currently ranked #3 by the World Boxing Association.
