Mexico City - Fernando "Ko-Chulito" Montiel was officially presented with his belt and endorsed as the bantamweight champion of World Boxing Council [WBC]. The ceremony was led by WBC President Don Jose Sulaiman in Mexico City.

Last Friday in Tokyo, Montiel who is already the WBO champion, dramatically dethroned Japanese champion Hozumi by knocking him out in the fourth round. Hasegawa suffered a fractured jaw. In presenting the belt to Montiel, Don José Sulaiman, Todd duBoef, President of Top Rank and Fernando Beltran, President of Zanfer, were all present.

"This is the achievement of a deam I've had had since my childhood, to win a world title in Japan and now that I've completed it, in truth I have no words that can describe the feeling. There will be more achievements in my career," Montiel said.

Don Jose Sulaiman showed his appreciation by giving the belt to Montiel.

"This is a belt that belongs to Mexico, we are proud to have a great world champion and we are sure that Montiel will defend it with honor," said Don Jose.
