Culiacan, Sinaloa - Super bantamweights Fernando Montiel and shared Nehomar Cermeno shared the ring during their open workouts, giving us a preview of what's to come on Saturday night at the stadium Banorte. The two former world champions attended the town hall of Culiacan to hold an exhibition, and lit the fuse on a powder keg that will explode when they exchange blows in the main event of an extraordinary evening of boxing. TV Azteza will televise.
Hundreds of fans gathered in the esplanade of City Hall in early morning hours to witnessed this training, which took place under some sweltering temperatures.
"It's quite hot here, but the temperature in the ring will be hotter than that on Saturday when," said the Venezuelan who opened the show for 20 minutes to work exclusively with rounds of shadow boxing, and who said that he is sufficiently prepared not only for the climate but to take the best shots from the Mexican.
"Kochulito" trained for almost an hour, well wrapped, using the strong temperature to sweat and shed those extra grams of his humanity. Fernando shadow boxed and hit mitts for 10 minutes, taking a standing ovation and feeling the culiacanense public support.
"I appreciate this gesture and support. Rest assured that I will win, I'm not going to fail," Montiel said as dozens of fans around him asked for autographs and photo-ops.
