WBO/WBC bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel flew to Puerto Rico to be in attendance to support his countryman Giovanni Segura, who unified the WBO/WBA junior flyweight titles with an eight round knockout of hometown hero Ivan Calderon. Montiel was greeted by some of the top fighters and champions of Puerto Rico, like Felix Trinidad, Juan Manuel Lopez and Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.
