At the MEN Arena in Manchester, England, WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KOs) retained his title with a ninth-round stoppage over former two-time champion John Ruiz (44-9-1, 30 KOs). Haye scored four knockdowns during the contest. Ruiz has probably seen his final shot at a major world title. Haye will move forward to chase a unification with the Klitschko brothers.
