The awards and accolades continue to fill with pride for Nicaraguan Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez, who yesterday was named the best boxer of 2015 by Univision Sports.

Gonzalez, who was present at the awards ceremony, beat out Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, Miguel Cotto and José Carlos Ramirez for the top prize. Other fighters present were Leo Santa Cruz and Guillermo Rigondeaux.

2015 has been a banner year for Gonzalez, who was named as the best pound-for-pound fighter by most writers in wake of the September retirement of Floyd "The Money" Mayweather.

"Chocolatito" received the new award from the hands of his attorney Carlos Blandon and at his side was former world champion, Panamanian Roberto "Hands of Stone" Duran.

Certainly, Gonzalez, who is at the pinnacle of boxing, has the world at his feet for being a great athlete and humble. The last three months were a wide victory for the brand new triple world champion, who last Thursday also received another distinction: Professional Athlete of the Year, by way of a vote from the Sports Writers Association of Nicaragua (ACDN).

Gonzalez will continue on that pedestal in 2016. In March, he is on the agenda to possibly face former world champion Giovani Segura. Besides the desired, he seeks revenge against fellow Aztec Juan Francisco "El Gallo" Estrada, who is the unified champion of the World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Organization (WBO).
