Tensions reached boiling point when unbeaten Australian Blake Caparello and his enigmatic American counterpart Allan Green went face-to-face for the final time at yesterday's weigh-in at the Bayview at the Park Hotel ahead of their scheduled clash for the vacant IBO light heavyweight title tonight from The Melbourne Pavilion.

Controversy struck went it became apparent that, Green, 34, was not going to make the contracted weight of 175 pounds - making it the second consecutive fight where the former world title challenger and Super Six contestant has come in overweight.

Caparello, 27, a consummate professional throughout his four-year career weighed in at a comfortable 174 pounds, while Green looked fleshy while officially weighing in at 180 pounds. Given his apparent track record of missing weight, Green will be forced to give up a further ten percent of his purse as per the fight's contractual stipulations, while an agreement was yet to be made for his weight on the night of the fight.

Green most recently missed weight for his July 5th bout against adopted Canadian Eleider Alvarez, that time coming in six pounds over the 180 pound contracted catchweight.

With plenty on the line for both camp's leading into the highly anticipated fight, there was a lot to be said from both fighters as well as their trainers as they exchanged heated words before departing for an official rules meeting with the IBO.

When addressed by the media on whether he saw his weight as being a missed opportunity, an emotionless Green replied, "No, I don't think it is (a missed opportunity). I'll get another title shot."

Conversely, Caparello was strictly business when addressing his counterpart.

"He (Green) said that he's in a different class to me and he's right, he is in a different class - he's a cruiserweight," he quipped. "I'll show that I can do tomorrow."

Tempers flared when Green, who has famously traded leather with super-middleweight kingpin Andre Ward as well as Glen Johnson and Mikkel Kessler amongst others made derogative remarks about Caparello's previous American opponents.

"You know what, where I come from, his previous opponents Dante Craig and Aaron Pryor Jr," he paused. "They're p*ssies."

At the official IBO rules meeting it was announced that only Caparello was eligible to win the vacant light heavyweight championship and if Green was victorious, the title would remain vacant. Caparello and Green will fight wearing Rival RFX fight gloves with Everlast Powerlock gloves being the preferred back up pair for both fighters.
