The weigh-in for Paulie Malignaggi’s Italian debut was held today at Dixieland Cafè in Milan. Tomorrrow the former super lightweight and welterweight world champion Malignaggi (33-7) will fight against Hungarian Laszlo Fazekas (27 wins, 21 losses, 1 draw and 1 no-contest) over the 8 round distance in the main event of a show promoted by Principe Boxing Events and OPI 2000 at famed Principe Theater in Milan.
The theater is the Milanese version of New York’s B.B. King Blues Club and Grill: it has a capacity of 550 people, 300 seats on the first floor and 250 people standing up on the second floor and the charm of being a historic venue for boxing.
From 1949 to 1961 it hosted the fights of many great Italian fighters. In 1960 it was also the set of a movie that made history: “Rocco e I suoi fratelli” directed by Luchino Visconti and starring future French legend Alain Delon.
