MARTIN MURRAY will weigh 3lb more than British middleweight title rival Nick Blackwell at Wigan’s Robin Park Arena tomorrow night (SAT). The pair clash for the vacant Lonsdale belt with Murray’s Commonwealth WBA inter-continental and Commonwealth crowns also on the line. The weigh-in was staged in Murray’s hometown St Helens, and the local idol tipped the scales at 11st 5lb in front of his noisy fans.
Trowbridge’s Blackwell weighed 11st 2lb for the contest where he’ll be bidding to become the youngest British champion since Ryan Rhodes in 1996. Blackwell, 20, and unbeaten in eight fights said: “I cannot wait and I am not fazed at all by the challenge.” Manchester’s Joe Murray and Scot James Ancliff both weighed 9st ahead of their vacant IBF international featherweight title fight.
