Lightweights Omar Figueroa and Nihito Arakawa had the scars of battle after their tremendous twelve round war on Saturday night in San Antonio. Figueroa won a twelve round decision, but it was far from easy with Arakawa taking punishment all fight long and continued to come forward with punches of his own. Arakawa threw 1170 punches in the fight, and Figueroa unloaded 960 of his own. The two fighters went to hospital after the match and there was plenty of respect as they took a photo side by side.

I quite agree. However, don't you think that's what made the fight so entertaining to watch? The fact that Omar did make the fight harder on himself (particularly his hands which looked quite swollen after the bout) than it should have been.
I think he can/will learn some more defense and picking his spots more efficiently with time. He's still pretty young isn't he?
The self-styled "BoxingKnowItAll" doesn't want to be entertained, he doesn't want to watch FOTYs, he wants to be bored with runners.
On the fight itself, let's not get it twisted. If Figueroa could have out-boxed Arakawa and made it easier on himself he would have - but he couldn't.

Great sportsmanship. Honor and respect between both fighters.
Sidenote, imagine katsidis vs arakawa? my god.

Omar Figueroa has a long way to go. He has next to no defense whatsoever. He could have made this fight much easier on himself and absorbed a lot less punishment.
Entertaining but completely devoid of boxing skill.

I agree. I saw this fight a few days after it actually took place. Man, what a war! Boxing is truly an art form. Simply beautiful!!!
Honestly, what made the fight so thrilling is the fact I had not seen or heard of either fighter before this point. Again, what a boxing treat.
