WBA/IBO/WBC interim-middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin didn't have a hint of trouble, easing inside the stipulated weight limit just seven days from his May 16th fight at the Inglewood Forum in California. As set out by the WBC rules, Golovkin complied with the the 7 day weighin, registering 165-pounds on the scale.
As previously reported, Willie Monroe Jr., Golovkin´s opponent, informed the sanctioned body by way of his manager that he wont fulfill the WBC pre-weight requirements. And because of that Monroe will not be able to capture the WBC interim middleweight championship. In the event Monroe wins, the title will remain vacant and he won't become Miguel Cotto's mandatory.
In spite of this situation, the WBC will cover his medical and life insurance as he will be part of a world title bout of the organization.
