WBC super bantamweight champion, Leo Santa Cruz, and three time former world champion Abner Mares, passed the World Boxing Council's 30 day pre-weighin with flying colors in preparation for their clash on August 29th at the Staples Center in Carson, California.

An added hard yet glittering edge to this much anticipated encounter, is the addition of the prestigious WBC Diamond belt- an award only disputed between elite fighters.

This vital safety procedure was the original idea of Don Jose Sulaiman. With concentration on the primary safety aspect, Don Jose recognized it's absolutely necessary to monitor the weight not only the day of the fight, but on a graduated basis, leading up to it. On that basis , this rule was created. So now the boxers care, appreciate and understand much more about weight - thanks to the 30 day, 7 day and 24 hour weighins before the fight.

Abner Mares was 133.8 lbs. While Leo was 132 lbs.
