Petr Petrov is hunting for a new opponent after he received official world that his scheduled WBO final eliminator against Liam Walsh is canceled. It appears Walsh injured his hand and is going to have immediate surgery.
The fight was scheduled for Frank Warren's big show in Manchester on October 10th. Petrov, who won ESPN's 2014 Boxcino tournament, was hoping to beat Walsh and then faced the winner of that show's main event, which is going to feature WBO lightweight champion Terry Flanagan (28-0, 11 KOs) defending against mandatory challenger Diego Magdaleno (28-1, 12 KOs).
Petrov (36-4-2, 17 KOs) was last in the ring on April 3 and won a lopsided decision against former champion Gamaliel Diaz. Walsh (19-0, 13KOs) was last in the ring in July.
For now he continues to train and hopes a new fight will be lined up for him. If he doesn't receive word soon, he will break camp and head back home to Spain, which is where the Russian fighter lives.
