The May 19 rematch between Lamont Peterson and Amir Khan is off, according to Golden Boy Promotions.
The promoter, in a news release, said the fight was canceled because of Peterson’s failed drug test and due to the fact that the Nevada State Athletic Commission would not be able to hold a formal hearing on whether to license Peterson until May 15, just four days before the bout was scheduled to take place.
Khan also noted the cancelation in a Twitter posting shortly before 7 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday.
Khan also said that he is looking for an opponent to fight on a later date. At first he mentioned June 30, though that date is not certain.
“June 30th is not 100% confirmed,” he tweeted later, “will let you guys know the exact date once I find out.”
This cancellation comes after the news that Peterson had tested positive for synthetic testosterone as part of the VADA drug testing both fighters had signed up for.
