Amir Khan defends his IBF/WBA junior welterweight titles against mandatory challenger Lamont Peterson on December 10 at the Convention Center in Washington, DC. During the last few weeks, Khan has done a lot of talking about a possible showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2012. Khan, 26-1 with 18 knockouts, is already planning out his new couple of fights, including a move to 147.
Peterson, 29-1-1 with 15 knockouts, is hoping to upset those plans by winning in his hometown. He doesn't blame Khan for looking ahead, but plans to make his own statement on fight night.
"Fighting at home, it's a dream come true for me," Peterson said. "Khan will train hard to defend the titles but I will train harder to protect my home turf and keep those titles here. But I couldn't blame him for looking ahead. We all have the same goals, the same dreams. I would be looking at fights with Mayweather and [Manny] Pacquiao too. People can say what they want. What we do on December 10 will determine what our future is."
