The free negotiation period for the rematch between No. 1 ranked heavyweight Samuel Peter and No. 2 ranked James Toney began on Tuesday, September 26. Should it be necessary, the purse offer would take place at 11:00 a.m. on October 31, 2006, during the WBC’s annual convention in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
The World Boxing Council voted, without anybody requesting it, in favor of a 55 percent purse split for Peter and 45 percent for Toney, in the case of a purse offer.
Samuel Peter’s representatives are requesting a change, and propose 60 percent for Peter and 40 percent for Toney. The WBC will make a decision regarding the percentages in Croatia before the purse offer is held.
