Promoter Dino Duva says the upcoming heavyweight clash with Sam Peter and Eddie Chambers is crucial to both fighters. The fight will be televised on ESPN from the Nokia Theater, Los Angeles, California.
Duva told BoxingScene.com’s Jose Aguirre that Peter needed to get himself in a tough fight after last year’s crushing one-sided loss to Vitali Klitschko.
"It's a big fight. It's great heavyweight matchup. Both guys are at a crucial point in their careers where they both have to perform. We didn't want to put Sam in with an easy fight after Klitschko. He's beyond that. He needs to step up and fight a solid world class contender and Eddie Chambers stepped up and is getting in the ring with Sam,” Duva said.
As far as Peter suffering any long term damage from the Klitschko beating, Duva says we will have to see how Peter performs in the ring. The Klitschko loss will either help him do better and cause his career to continue a downward spiral.
“I think we'll find out when he gets in the ring. I know Sam and he's a pretty confident guy. He just acknowledges that it wasn't his night, that something was wrong that night. I'm seeing a new dedication and hunger in Sam since that fight, that I haven't seen in the last few years. Sometimes bad fights turn out to be negatives and sometimes they turn out to be positives. Hopefully it will turn out to be a positive and he will be ready to really work hard now,” Duva said.
