New York, New York- It’s been an up and down couple of years for Peter Quillin (32-0-1, 23 KO’s) personally and professionally. Outside of the ring, he’s lost an uncle to cancer, had the birth of his first child with his wife. Outside of the ring, he dropped his first world title, missed weight in an attempt to fight for another world title against Andy Lee, and now will have a crack at Danny Jacobs (30-1, 27 KO’s) for the WBA ‘regular’ Middleweight title.
uillin reflected on such at the press conference to kick off the all Brooklyn showdown.
“Emotional roller coaster,” Quillin said to BoxingScene.com. “I made the decisions myself for my family. I wouldn’t be where I’m at without my family. I lost a family member to cancer and now I’m fighting a guy that had cancer. I think I’ve grown through the emotional roller coaster. I’m taking every fight serious as ever to provide for my family.”
Though he considers Jacobs a friend, Quillin says that is going out the window come December 5th at the Barclays Center.
“He’s coming to hurt me so I must do that before he does it to me,” Quillin stated. “He’s got something to prove, I don’t have something to prove. Who has the belt? He want to fight me and I don’t got one of the belts. I got something that he wants. I’m not going to understand what that is but I will just work hard to not lose. I see he’s got a big ass chin so I’ll be ready to hit it.”
Quillin had issues making weight in his 1st fight this year against Andy Lee but made 160 against Michael Zerafa. Quillin says the difference maker was the help of Angel ‘Memo’ Heredia who will now be working with Quillin throughout the duration of this camp for Danny Jacobs.
“I was doing things on my own and things what I wanted to do,” explained Quillin. “I worked with Memo Heredia and his assistant in my last fight, going to do the same for this fight.”
