New York - One of boxing’s top heavyweight contenders trying to get back into the championship picture, combined with several of New York City’s top prospects will take center stage when Cedric Kushner’s Gotham Boxing presents “David and the Rising Stars,” a fight spectacular on Thursday night, February 22, at the Roseland Ballroom.
In the main event, Samoan heavyweight slugger David Tua goes for his fifth straight victory as he eyes a return to world championship contender status against tough Philadelphian Robert Hawkins (21-6, 7 KO’s).
Tua-Man has a glittering ring record of 46-3-1, and his knockout prowess makes him one of the most feared heavyweights in the division, as his 40 KO triumphs clearly indicate. He has defeated the likes of former champions Hassim Rahman, Michael Moorer, and John Ruiz, and current WBC champion Oleg Maskaev during his career.
The phenomenal undercard is stockpiled with New York City talent. Gotham’s newly signed Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (8-0, 7 KO’s) of New York City brings his knockout punch and exciting style to Roseland for the second time where he will look to extend his unbeaten string to nine. In his last outing on November 3, “Kid Chocolate” disposed of David Estrada with an impressive first round TKO. The rangy middleweight possesses a popular come-forward style and knockout punch to go with it.
Bronx star Jorge “The Truth” Teron (14-0-1, 9 KO’s) will also be making his second Roseland appearance when he sees action on the 22nd. Coming off an eighth round TKO over Lorenzo Bethea on December 8th at the Huntington Townhouse, “The Truth” will look to continue his rise up the lightweight rankings. Trained by Mark Breland and managed by Steven Heid, Teron is a three-time New York Golden Gloves champion.
Tickets are priced at $150, $100, $75 and $50, and are available at Gotham Boxing by calling 212-755-1944, and Ticketmaster.
