On July 11th, a pivotal junior welterweight contest between Mauricio Herrera and Hank Lundy headlines an HBO Latino in a card promoted by Golden Boy Promotions. A co-feature has been nailed down for that broadcast.
"Mikey (Michael) Perez-Sharif Bogere, two top (lightweight) contenders fighting each other and getting closer to a world title fight," said Eric Gomez, V.P. and Matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions, which is staging this event.
Bogere, who hails from Uganda and now fights out of Las Vegas has a record of 27-1 (19 KO's), came up short in his bid for the WBA lightweight belt in March of 2013 versus difficult Richar Abril. Perez has a mark of 22-1-2(10 KO's) and his lone loss came against future lightweight belt-holder, Omar Figueroa, who stopped him in six rounds in January of 2012.
This match-up looks like an evenly matched pairing that could be entertaining.
Gomez states, "Oscar (De La Hoya) has been very clear for the longest time now, he wants the best to fight the best. He wants really, really good fights and that's what it's all about and we take the time to really try to come up with fights that the fans want to see. It's all part of the process."
This card will take place at the Los Angeles Sports Arena and will have tickets priced as low as $10.
"We got a great deal, they've been very supportive and it'll be a great night of boxing," says Gomez.
