Former world junior flyweight titleholder Pedro Guevara broke Robert Sanchez down, eventually stopping him after the 10th round late Saturday night at the Palenque de la Expo in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico.
After losing to WBC 108-pound titleholder Ken Shiro on Oct. 22, Guevara returned to action on May 18, stopping Angel Guevara in round six.
Now campaigning as a junior bantamweight, Guevara is hoping to win a world title belt at 115 pounds and compete in a very deep division.
Guevara (32-3-1, 19 knockouts) was deducted a point in round two when an accidental clash of heads opened a cut over the right eye of Sanchez. Per the WBC rules, a point gets deducted from the fighter who was not because of an accidental clash of heads.
The 29-year-old Guevara began ripping the more-effective punches in round four. As the bout progressed into the second half of the fight, Sanchez tired, throwing one punch at a time.
After Guevara dominated round 10, Sanchez's corner told referee Christian Curiel that their fighter was not able to continue.
Guevara is ranked number two by the WBC, but with Guevara winning a minor regional belt, he will become ranked amongst the top 15 at 115 pounds.
Sanchez (17-2, 11 KOs), who resides in nearby Poblado Miguel Aleman, had his 12-bout winning streak snapped.
Hard-hitting featherweight Eduardo Nunez (12-1, 12 KOs) knocked out Jose Vega Ochoa (11-2, 5 KOs) at 1:24 of the opening round.
Bantamweight Karim Arce, the nephew of Jorge 'Travieso' Arce, dropped former junior bantamweight world titleholder Alexander Munoz in round three to win by unanimous decision.
All three judges scored the bout 77-74 in favor of Arce, who improves to 14-0-1, 5 KOs. The 39-year-old Munoz, who is San Felix, Venezuela, drops to 40-8, 31 KOs.
