25-year old welterweight gunslinger Pedro Campa (25-0, 19 KO), 141, of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, overcame a few rocky moments to record a brutal fourth round knockout of 30-year old former lightweight title challenger Marvin Quintero (29-8, 25 KO), 141, of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.
It was the main event at the Gimnasio Municipal, Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico, on Saturday night. The referee was Octoviano Lopez.
Campa picked up some good experience in what was an entertaining, explosive fight. Rocked in the first round, and countered hard as Quintero worked off the ropes in the third, the younger Campa found the opening he needed in the fourth. Trapping the veteran in the corner and then on the ropes, Campa had him hurt and finished the show with a vicious three punch combination. Quintero was down and the referee waved it off at 1:18 of round four.
It was Quintero’s seventh knockout loss and third in his last six fights.
The televised card began at Jr. flyweight.
Using a steady work rate and heavier shots, 24-year old former title challenger Gilberto Parra (24-3, 20 KO), 108, of Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico, appeared to earn a clear ten-round decision over 28-year old former 105 lb. titlist Mario Rodriguez (19-13-5, 12 KO), 108, of Guasave, Sonora, Mexico.
Scores came in split though, with one judge crediting Rodriguez’s effort at 97-93, The other two judges disagreed at 99-91 and 98-92. It was Parra’s fifth straight win after suffering a stoppage loss in a March 2015 of then-108 lb. titlist Donnie Nietes.
Rodriguez falls to 0-4-1 in his last five starts.
The card was televised in the US on BeIn Sports Espanol, promoted by Zanfer.
