Move over Kostya Tszyu, Robbie Peden has brought another title back to Australia when he stopped Nate Campbell in 8 rounds to pick up the vacant IBF super featherweight title. Peden was leading on all the scorecards at the time of the stoppage, the scores were 68-66, 68-65 and 66-65. Campbell had lost a point earlier in the fight from a headbutt.
"None of them would give me a shot at the title because I'm a hard fight. Now they can come to me, I'll put my belt on the line." Peden said.
The Referee Johnny Wright stopped the fight seven seconds from the end of the eighth round as Campbell was getting battered by Peden. Campbell is already claiming that there was bias refereeing in the bout.
The reports coming out of the fight state that Campbell was bleeding very bad from multiple cuts above both eyes and his nose, Cambell was also taking plenty of punishment in the late rounds.
"It was hard for me to fight everybody - you can't fight the referee. I would never fight here again, never, not against anybody. I was done a grave injustice tonight. I feel like I was taken advantage of. I will look back at this and laugh I'm sure - but it won't be anytime soon." said Campbell
On the undercard, top rated middleweight Sam Soliman knocked out challenger Miguel Julio in four rounds.
