Alejandro ‘Payasito’ Hernandez will top the fall series premiere of Boxeo Telemundo, which kicks off September 30 live from Auditorio Blackberry in Mexico City, Mexico.
In search of his fourth consecutive win, Hernandez will take on countryman Emanuel Dominguez in a scheduled 10-round bout. A regional title will be at stake, but with the hope of a win leading to so much more for the streaking super bantamweight contender.
“Payasito has always been a Telemundo series favorite,” promoter Felix ‘Tutico’ Zabala, Jr. told BoxingScene.com of his veteran boxer. “But ever since his close loss to Tomoki Kameda (Hernandez dropped a majority decision in their Nov. ’14 bantamweight title fight), he’s been eager to return to the world title picture.
“These fights will continue to pave the way for that opportunity, as long as he does his job every time out in the ring.”
Hernandez (31-11-1, 16KOs) will make his 12th appearance on Boxeo Telemundo, sporting a 9-2 record overall. Included among the lot are wins in each of his last three starts, all coming at this very venue and in the wake of his aforementioned loss to Kameda.
In his most recent start, Hernandez scored a 10-round decision win over Isao Carranza in their rematch this past March. The victory was far more decisive than their first meet in Jan. ’14.
Dominguez (18-5-2, 12KOs) steps up in class but has greatly improved over the past year or so. The 22-year old from Aguascalientes has suffered just one loss in his last nine starts after struggling to a 12-4 career start. He enters this bout riding a two-fight win streak, including a decision victory this past July.
The September 30 show kicks off a four-weekend block of boxing action on Telemundo, which has been split up into three seasons within each year and rotating between Mexico City and Central Florida.
The U.S. debut for the fall season comes October 7, with Orlando Cruz headlining the show in Tampa, Florida. Remaining dates are October 14 (Palm Bay, Florida) and October 21 (Mexico City), with main events for those shows to be announced in the near future.
