Paul Butler unleashed a hook to the body to claim another win on the way to a third world title shot.

Butler, who is now 21-1 (12), added the vacant WBO International super flyweight title to his haul of belts on the undercard of Terry Flanagan’s WBO lightweight title showdown against Derry Mathews.

He started off well, Butler, and didn’t let the Mexican visitor get into the fight. He bossed it from start to finish and ended the fight –– after landing a peach of a left hook to the body –– despite suffering two fractured hands.

“My left started going in the fourth and then my right went in round six, but went badly in round eight,” said Butler when talking to Alex Steedman of BoxNation.

“I went back to the corner and said that my hand had gone, but I don’t think that was a good performance.

“It was hard to get my shots off because he was so negative, but a win’s a win.”

The contest was originally scheduled to be for the vacant IBF International title, but the same belt was fought for under the jurisdiction of the World Boxing Organisation after a late change to the organisation.

Butler, 27, has long been linked with a fight against Jamie Conlan, the WBO Inter-Continental titlist, but all has gone quiet of late.

However, the ‘Baby-Faced Assassin’, has said “there’s a difference.”

Continuing on BoxNation after his win over Sánchez, he said: “They talk about it, we want it. It’s been going on and on, so let’s make it happen.”
