Frank Warren has said that a long-awaited fight between two highly rated fighters will soon be official.
The Queensberry Promotions chief confirmed that a clash between super flyweight duo Paul Butler (20-1, 11 KOs) and Jamie Conlan (15-0, 9 KOs) is on the verge of being signed and sealed.
Both fighters have been on a collision course for some time and it looks as though the fight isn’t far away.
Former IBF bantamweight champion Butler, whose sole defeat as a professional came at the hands of Zolani Tete in March in a challenge for the same belt at 115lbs, was in action last weekend as he cruised to a stoppage victory over Spanish-based Romanian Silvio Olteanu (15-9-1, 6 KOs) en-route to picking up the vacant WBO European title, which Conlan used to have.
Conlan, meanwhile, is expected to have another outing before coming up against the Ellesmere Port fighter, with him already being pencilled in to feature on an MGM Marbella-promoted card at Dublin’s National Stadium.
But Warren, who was speaking to Kugan Cassius of iFL TV in an end-of-year interview, is confident that the fight will be rubber-stamped as long as Conlan adds to his record on February 6, live and exclusive on BoxNation.
He said: “I’m looking forward to the fight [between the pair]. It’s more or less made, it’s a matter of us agreeing the terms.
"Both parties want the fight and that makes it easier to do, so we’ll get that done and get the date sorted out and that will happen at some point in the next four or five months, guaranteed."
