Former British featherweight champion Paul Appleby has called out Liam Walsh.

Appleby has been without a title since he lost his Lonsdale belt to Martin Lindsay.

But now the Scostman fancies his chances against Walsh up at super-featherweight.

Walsh is undefeated as a pro and beat John Kays in his last fight.

Appleby suffered a recent defeat to WBO featherweight title challenger Joseph Laryea, but is looking to get back into title contention.

"I have switched training from Spain where I was before my last fight and I've been having sparring sessions with world super-featherweight champion Ricky Burns at Billy Nelson's Glasgow gym," Appleby told the the Scotsman newspaper.

"All of this is aimed at sharpening me up for the guy I really want - Walsh.

"I've studied Walsh's recent British title defence against Jon Kays and I think I have the style and ability to beat him so my plan is to get a warm-up bout under my belt then challenge Walsh in the autumn for his Commonwealth crown.''
