Scottish talent Paul Appleby cannot wait to start his new career as a super-featherweight.

The former British nine stone champion has moved up in weight as he continues to grow.

And after signing with promoter top Frank Warren, the South Queensferry star will return to action on September 4 in Glasgow on the undercard of Ricky Burns' challenge for the WBO World Super-Featherweight title, live on Sky Sports 1

Appleby will keep busy in an eight rounder, but has his sights on a title fight before the end of 2010.

Among his targets are British champion Gary Sykes, and the Commonwealth crown currently held by Ricky Burns.

"It's been a tough year or so after losing to Martin Lindsay, but I feel refreshed and ready to go again," said the 23-year-old.

"I've been sparring some tough rounds with the likes of John Simpson, Burns, Alex Arthur and John Thain, and I feel in fantastic shape.

"September 4 cannot come quickly enough as far as I am concerned, but it's what might happen after that that really excites me.

"Hopefully I can get a title shot of some sort before December. I'd love a fight against Sykes because after being a British champion at featherweight, I want another Lonsdale belt.

"Or if Ricky wins the world title against Roman Martinez, then a first defence against me would be a brilliant fight for Scotland."
