History was made at the York Hall in Bethnal Green when Patrick Mendy (8-4, 1KOs) won the latest Prizefighter tournament by winning a three round decision over English champion Paul David (10-5). Mendy, only 19-years-old, wins the check of £32,000 The scores were 29-28, 29-28 and 30-27. The super middleweight limit of 168 was the tournament weight for the latest Prizefighter.

"I believed in myself and I said at the beginning I would win this - there were no doubts about it," Mendy told Sky Sports. "They were always going to be tough fights. They were older than me, stronger and more experienced than me. But I always believed in my training."

In the first fight of the night, Mendy had stopped Sam Horton and then won a decision over Daniel Cadman in the semi-finals. David has stopped Carl Drake and won a decision over Jeff Evans.
