Orange, CA – Since its launch in the year 2000, Thompson Boxing Promotions’ “Path to Glory” Series, has thrilled fight fans in search of competitive bouts featuring top-notch local, national, and international talent. And beginning with the company’s April 7th show, the rest of the world will find out boxing’s best kept secret, as Thompson Boxing Promotions is pleased to announce that Fox Sports Español has acquired the exclusive rights to air all of their 2008 events. All the shows will air tape-delayed approximately one week after each event takes place on Fox Sports Español Friday night primetime slot, and will be shown in the United States, Mexico, Central and South America. The telecasts will also be broadcasted in Canada, and the Caribbean.
“We have been working hand in hand with Fox Sports Español for the past two years,” said promoter Ken Thompson. “We are thrilled that they have acquired the exclusive rights to our fights. We make a big effort to showcase the future champions of the sport and action packed events like the one this coming April 7.”
This inaugural Fox Sports Español show should be one to remember as rising star Sergio Espinoza of San Diego and unbeaten Manuel Roman of Paramount face one another in their “ULTIMATE BATTLE” for the vacant WBC Continental Americas Flyweight Championship on Monday, April 7.

The only boxer in the history of San Diego County to have won four major national amateur boxing titles (Junior National Championship, the National PAL Boxing Championship (twice), the National Golden Gloves Championship and the USA National Championship), 29-year old flyweight contender Sergio Espinoza (15-4-1, 5 KOs) is a technical boxing wizard who is on the doorstep of great things in the pro boxing game, and he has big plans for himself in 2008. In 20-year old Tijuana native Manuel Roman (11-0-1, 1 no contest, 5 KOs), Espinoza will be taking on a talented young man who lives up to his nickname “Suavecito” (Smooth) whenever he steps between the ropes due to his impressive boxing style.
Undercard bouts on April 7 will see some of Southern California’s brightest young talents in action as light heavyweights Jesus Berrelleza (5-0, 4 KOs) of Fontana and amateur stand out Jason Douglas (2-0, 2 KOs) of Ontario, Canada, throw hands in what should be an unforgettable six round battle. Riverside’s Rafael Lopez (4-0) takes on Detroit’s hard-hitting Shawn Purdy (3-3, 3 KOs) in a four round junior middleweight bout, and LA’s featherweight Jesus Hernandez puts his 5-0 record on the line in a four rounder against Illinois’ Nick Arrellano (1-2). In the opener, Riverside’s Danny Escobar takes on Pomona’s Ricardo Sanchez in a clash of debuting junior welterweights.
