According to Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, and Canadian promoter Yvon Michel, the contracts for the light heavyweight title fight between Jean Pascal and Bernard Hopkins have been finalized, and the signatures are on their way. The fight is scheduled to happen on December 18, likely at the Pepsi Colesium in Quebec City, Canada.
"I'm awaiting contracts from both fighters, but it looks favorable," said Schaefer. "It looks favorable, yes, based upon what I have heard from Bernard Hopkins' attorney, that he is awaiting Bernard Hopkins' signature. Hopefully, we'll get it today. And Yvon Michel, Pascal's promoter, called me yesterday and he is waiting for Pascal's signature."
Michel, the promoter of WBC/IBO champion Pascal, doesn't expect any issues with the deal. A agreement was made in principle several weeks ago and the two sides are an inch away from finalizing the entire deal.
"Richard and I, we came to an agreement, and now, I know that Richard has submitted the proposal to Bernard Hopkins. We did the same to Jean Pascal," said Michel. "So it is looking very favorable, from our side, and, from what I have been told, it is looking very favorable from the side of Bernard Hopkins according to Richard Schaefer. So it's just a question of administration now. So, within a couple of days, we expect that everything will be finalized."
