Former light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal is not buying into the hype surrounding undefeated WBO king Sergey Kovalev, who many view as the most dangerous fighter and the guy to beat at 175. Kovalev's biggest win was earlier this year, when he stopped Nathan Cleverly in four rounds, but Pascal feels Cleverly was an untested fighter who never went up against top competition.
"Kovalev is a good boxer, he has good power, decent skills and he probably has a good amateur background as well. But on paper, he's untested. Until he beats a champion or former champion or decent champion who was tested before - I don't think he's earned that right to be 'the guy' to beat in the light heavyweight division," Pascal said.
Pascal returns on January 18th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, when he faces Canadian rival Lucian Bute.
