Former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker believes Tyson Fury is the ‘best heavyweight of our era.’
Parker is friends with Fury and has helped the 'Gypsy King' when it comes to training. Parker often stays and trainer in Las Vegas, where Fury held his last three bouts. Fury's last four bouts have taken place in the United States.
Fury became the WBC heavyweight champion last month, when he dropped Deontay Wilder twice and secured a stoppage victory in the seventh round at the MGM Grand.
The victory allowed Fury to become a two-time world champion.
Fury became a unified champion back in November 2015, when he won a twelve round unanimous decision over Wladimir Klitschko.
“The first fight [vs Wilder], Fury won in my view but it was a draw as we all saw. The second fight, no one expected Fury to put him on the back foot like he explained he was going to do. I think it will be the same result in the third fight. I think Fury is probably the best heavyweight in our era. Fighting [Wladimir] Klitzchko and dethroning him and also coming back from everything he’s come back from, beating Wilder and getting the title, that’s incredible," Parker told Talk Sport.
Parker is now hoping to get himself back in position for a world title fight. He doesn't really know when his next fight will happen, as boxing is now on a hiatus due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“You know I’ve had victories since Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte. It’s good to get wins under your belt but I feel in the future I want to get a world title shot as soon as I can," Parker said.
“I haven’t been afraid to say it, I’ll fight the top five or ten in the world just so I can get closer at getting to a title.”
