Undefeated 18-year-old prospect Jorge Paez Jr. ran his professional record to 7-0 with seven knockouts with a second-round technical knockout of Ricky Alexander Saturday night at the Apache Gold Resort and Casino near Globe, Ariz.


The highly regarded Paez, who is promoted exclusively by Sycuan Ringside Promotions, dropped Alexander twice before the referee stopped the scheduled four-round lightweight bout at 2:28 of the first.


"Jorge looked very sharp tonight," said Sycuan Ringside Promotions matchmaker Sean Gibbons. "His punches were very powerful, very compact and he hurt Alexander with each one.  He floored Alexander with a wicked body shot and then with a left hook to the head the second time."


Gibbons said the son of former featherweight world champion Jorge "Maromero" Paez probably would fight again in May and continue to fight approximately once a month through 2006.  It was the first fight for Paez, from Mexicali, Mexico, since he scored a knockout Dec. 23 at the Sycuan Resort & Casino in San Diego.


"The key is to keep Jorge active," said co-manager Andy Ruiz.  "We want him to learn and he is learning his trade so he can become a solid world champ like his father was."


The 23-year-old Alexander, from Stillwater, Okla., now has a record of 5-4.  He scored a first-round knockout of Orville Hodge in his previous bout March 24 in Oklahoma City.
