Not to mix world affairs with world championship boxing but some Manny Pacquiao fanatics, none of whom are afraid of goons riding camels, are concerned that it might be "Down goes Pacman" because of a golf ball sized lump on their hero's right hand, close to his wrist.
The lump, which can be seen prominently in Chris Farina's Top Rank photo from the Thursday Sugar Shane Mosley-Pacquiao May 7 bout kickoff media conference in tony Beverly Hills, is nothing new and nothing to worry about according to Canadian Clubber and MP agent, Michael Koncz.
"It's really nothing new, the lump," Koncz said by phone from LA on Friday. "We've had it checked out, we've had it looked at by doctors.
"It's not a cyst but it's like a cyst. Manny has no pain associated with it. It's been there before and there are no side effects to it."
Naturally, some over the top Pacfans are working themselves into panic mode after noticing the lump on Manny's jabbing hand.
Moving from the hand to the head, Koncz is amused by all the commentary, including my own sarcastic shots, about Pacman's Prince Valiant/Justin Bieber hairstyle.
On the cosmetic issue list, the flowing locks are drawing more interest than the lumpy paw.
"I had to laugh because we got more comments about Manny's hair than we did about the Mosley fight, at least yesterday."
I asked Koncz what inspired Pacman to grow the hairy mess on his cranium.
"The inspiration?" Koncz said. "That I couldn't tell you. I told Manny he should get a haircut but we made an agreement that, when he gets a haircut, I'll have to get one also."
Like it or lump it, I guess we best get used to Pacquiao's new 'do.
