While the Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao camps keep talking about a fight between the two superstars, there is a fight result to report from within the Pacman inner circle.
Several sources have confirmed that veteran Pinoy actor and onetime political candidate Phillip Salvador, a popular, sword wielding action movie staple, recently "sucker-punched" Pacquiao's controversial Canadian agent, Michael Koncz.
Salvador is a high profile figure with a lengthy career as an actor.
He is currently appealing a 20 year criminal conviction for fraud and had a long term romantic affair with popular Krissy Aquino, daughter of the assassinated Filipino hero Beningo Aquino Jr. and the late Corazon Aquino, who was the 11th president of the archipelago.
Salvador turns age 57 on August 22.
Action figure Phillip Salvador put some aggressive action on Pacman agent Michael Koncz with his fists, eschewing the magical sword he uses in movies
Koncz, who I now refer to as "Doctor No" for his thankless job of refusing many requests for Pacquiao's time and money, has been laying low this week in New York City where Friday night "Fighter Of The Decade" Pacman and fourth time "Trainer Of The Year" Coach Freddie Roach will be honored by the Boxing Writers Association of America.
The dustup between the actor and the agent occurred in the Philippines recently and Koncz told one associate, "This guy sucker-punched me, straight up."
Pacquiao witnessed the punchout and, according to one source, "Manny just let it go, someone else broke it up."
Maybe it's becoming an annual ritual in the Pacquiao camp for someone to assault Koncz.
Michael Koncz, the "Dr. No" of the Manny Pacquiao camp almost became "Dr. TKO'd" in the recent fight with Salvador.
When Pacman trained in the cool climes of Baguio for the Miguel Cotto bout, conditioning coach Alex Ariza lost his temper and slapped Koncz across the mouth several times. That incident happened in the fighter's hotel suite and bodyguards halted it.
When I phoned the Baguio hotel, Ariza confirmed that he had pimp slapped Koncz and said he did so because the agent was trying to push himself into working Pacman's corner on fight night, a move which would have left Ariza sitting in the audience.
I don't know if they're serving the usual banquet beefsteak at the Roosevelt Hotel for the BWAA Dinner but, if they do, Agent Koncz might be the guy putting his slab of beef over a blackened eye.
