Pound for Pound king Manny Pacquiao was one of the near 18,000 fans in attendance to watch Miguel Cotto retain his WBO welterweight title with a close split-decision win over Joshua Clottey at New York's Madison Square Garden. Top Rank's Bob Arum, who promotes both fighters, would like to match Cotto and Pacquiao in November.
"I would like to see if we can make Pacquiao-Cotto. That's the fight I want to make for November," Arum said to BoxingScene.com veteran Lem Satterfield.
Cotto suffered a very bad cut in the early rounds and he was troubled for the remainder of the fight. Arum said Pacquiao became worried when he saw how bad the cut was and hoped the ringside doctor would stop the fight.
"[Pacquiao] said, after the seventh round, that he hoped that they stopped the fight, because if they don't, then he thought Cotto would be in big trouble," said Arum. "But they didn't stop the fight, and Cotto sucked it up. I thought he was tremendously gutsy."
