MGM Grand, Las Vegas -  In a battle of welterweights, Jonathan Steele (8-2-1, 6 KOs) won an upset eight round split decision over Jayar Inson (18-2, 12 KOs), who went down in the contest and was rocked several times.

The scores were 77-74 for Inson, 77-74 for Steele and 78-73 for Steele.

In the following fight, super featherweight Desmond Jarmon kept his perfect record intact by recording a six-round, majority-decision win against Canton Miller.

Cincinnati’s Jarmon (8-0, 4 KOs) beat St. Louis’ Miller (3-2-1, 1 KO) on the scorecards of judges Adelaide Byrd (59-55) and Glenn Trowbridge (58-56). Judge Robert Hoyle scored the action even (57-57), though it seemed Jarmon consistently landed flusher punches and was busier.

Jarmon rocked Miller with a right uppercut late in the fourth round that knocked out Miller’s mouthpiece. They spent the previous minute-plus trading power shots on the inside, with both boxers landing impactful shots.

Otherwise, their fight largely was reasonably competitive, yet uneventful.

Welterweight prospect Destyne Butler remained unbeaten by defeating David Payne in a four-rounder.

Chicago’s Butler (5-0, 3 KOs) won by the same score, 40-36, on the cards of judges Lisa Giampa, Patricia Morse Jarman and Natalie Tyrrell. Los Angeles’ Payne (3-2-1, 1 KO) kept the fight competitive, but the taller, longer Bulter landed the harder shots for much of their fight.

Butler and Payne trades power shots, both against the ropes and in the center of the ring, during a very competitive fourth round.

Butler knocked out Payne’s mouthpiece just after the midway point of the third round, which caused a brief break in the action. Butler also seemed to sting Payne with an overhand right that caused Payne to hold later in the third.

Cruiserweight prospect Viddal Riley (2-0, 2 KO)s, who is trained by Jeff Mayweather, demolished Mitchell Spangler (0-1), who was making his pro debut. Sprangler was dropped in the opening seconds. And then dropped a second time a moment. The fight lasted 33 seconds.
