MANNY Pacquiao has confirmed his decision about his political ambitions. Pacquiao told a national television network, GMA, on Saturday night about his final decision to run for a congressional seat against incumbent Rep. Darlene Antonino-Custonio in the first district of South Cotabato.
The 28-year-old pound-for-pound icon claimed Barangay Captains and his supporters in the province pushed him to run in the May 14 elections despite the persistent discouragement from fans and concerned personalities, including Commission on Elections chairman Benjamin Abalos.
Pacquiao earlier said he postponed his political ambition after he was “booed” by fans upon his entrance at the Cebu City Sports Complex to watch the big boxing event last month in Cebu City.
He is currently preparing for his April 14 bout against Mexican featherweight Jorge Solis at Alamodome in San Antonio , Texas . Pacquiao has started his sparring regimen against Jesar Ancajas and Laguna-pride Aaron Melgarejo in General Santos City.
He postponed his planned March 6 flight to Los Angeles until March 17, where he will do his final stage of training at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood under Freddie Roach’s assistant Justin Fortune.
